Ph.D., Plant Ecology, Scientist at Department of Ecology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala.
Heidi Paltto has an interest in nature which dates back to her teens. She has done volunteer work with botanical inventories, bird inventories and ringing of birds. After graduating as a biologist, Heidi Paltto worked as a conservation consultant for three years for the foundation Pro Natura, which included conservation-oriented inventories and management plans for nature reserves. She took her doctor’s degree in 2007 at the University of Gothenburg. Her thesis was “Oak-rich temperate forest – Conservation ecology of cryptogams and vascular plants at local and landscape-level”. At present she does research on migration and extinction dynamics of an endangered beetle (Tenebrio opacus), which lives in hollow oaks. In 2009, Heidi received a scholarship and an award from King Carl XVI Gustaf's 50th Birthday Fund for Science, Technology and the Environment for her research which contributes to conserve biodiversity.
